Theme 2 : Chinese thinking

In order to better understand the Chinese mentality, it is necessary to bear in mind two philosophies (Confucianism and Taoism), a religion (Buddhism) and an ideology (communism), which have shaped the Chinese civilization and thinking since the ancient days or more recently, which influence the behavior of the Chinese in the business world, and which can be at the origin of misunderstandings of the Westerners.

In the cultural landscape of China, these streams of thought coexist and have each been given their own domain: Confucianism to govern the country, Taoism to preserve the body and Buddhism to save the soul …

Theme 3 : Incidence of cultural factors in business

The Chinese believed for a long time to be the only civilized people, and being the centre of the world: thus the name “the Middle Empire”. Being Chinese means, first of all, to be civilized. Mutual understanding and greater knowledge of each other therefore serve as the foundation of a successful communication.

Theme 7 : Personal, National and Corporate Identity

Why does the subsidiary always complain that the headquarter does not understand it, while the headquarter reproaches the subsidiary for not following the group’s policy? Geographical distance, vision gaps, different stakes, misunderstandings between the Western corporate culture and the Chinese local culture…
